CONNECT - A New Activity for Young Adults Begins in May 2008

Connect – An opportunity for you to connect with God and with other young single adults each Wednesday at Brentwood Hills. From 6:15p.m.-7:00p.m. on Wednesday evenings in May-August 2008 a mixer meal for young single adults will be served on the upstairs terrace or in the terrace view room (classroom #502). The cost for the meal including a dessert will be $5.00 per person (or $4.00 if you buy a monthly meal ticket in advance). See the May Menu at the bottom of this page. During the mixer meal you (or if you prefer you & one friend) will be seated with a different group of people each week so you can get to know and Connect with other single adults from the area. After the meal two groups will meet for a period of singing and Bible study from 7:00p.m.-7:45p.m. Details listed below:

GROUP ONE (Target age 25-40) Theme of study “RELATIONSHIPS”

This Bible study group will be led by Archie Luper (May) and David

Tiner, a Christian counselor, (June-August). Here are some subjects to be

discussed (additional subjects suggested by participants):

1. Connecting with God: Developing & maintaining a foundational covenant relationship

2. Dealing with problems in relationships-roommates, friends, co-workers & couples

3. Determining if you can or should continue to pursue a current relationship

4. Respectful and constructive ways to resolve issues, problems and conflict

5. Problems in relationships that should NOT be ignored and how to seek professional help-persistent anger, physical/verbal/sexual abuse, addictions, etc.

6. Dealing with scars from past relationships - inability to trust, fear of rejection, etc.

7. Developing relationship skills that can help in existing and/or future relationships

8. Learning to effectively communicate with the opposite sex

9. Understanding and respecting his needs/her needs

GROUP TWO (Target age 19-29) Theme of study “TWENTY SOMETHING

ISSUES”

This Bible study group will be led by Johnsie Henderson, J. D. Blackburn,

Archie Luper & others. Here are just some of the subjects to be discussed

(additional subjects suggested by participants):

1. Connecting with God: Developing & maintaining a foundational covenant relationship

2. Connecting with a network of friends who encourage & help each other

3. Connecting with people I can date – where do I go?

4. Life in the real world: Making decisions, making money, making payments, etc.

5. Maintaining balance - time, money, relationships, responsibilities, recreation, etc.

6. While You Wait: Things to accomplish before you finish your education, before marriage

7. Dealing with problems in relationships - roommates, friends, co-workers, couples

8. Respectful and constructive ways to resolve issues, problems and conflict

9. Developing relationship skills that can help in existing and/or future relationships

Wednesday, May 14th – Meal catered by Shane’s Rib Shack – Barbecue Sandwiches (Pulled Chicken & Pulled Pork), Baked Beans, Slaw, Potato Salad, Chips, Cobbler, Tea, Soft Drinks & Bottled Water

Wednesday, May 21st – Chicken Fillets (catered by McDougal’s), Baked Potatoes, Salad, Green Beans, Rolls, Dessert, Tea, Soft Drinks & Bottled Water

SUNDAY, MAY 11TH - PLANNING MEETING

Don't miss this brief meeting in room #502 immediately after the 6:00p.m. service. We will make decisions about summer activities.

MAY SERVICE PROJECTS

 On Saturday, May 17th and Saturday, May 31st we will meet at Brentwood Hills at 10:00 a.m. and go to do repair work at the Y.E.S. (Youth Encouragement Services) Camp. Bring money for your lunch.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEK-END EVENT

On Sunday, May 25th, meet at The Henderson's home (1400 Bowman Lane) at 6:00p.m. for volleyball and other sports, games, a cook-out and fireside devo. Bring $3.00 for the meal or bring a dessert (enough for 8 or more people).

SUNDAY, APRIL 6TH - We will eat at Fazoli's at 7:30p.m. and then go bowling at Tusculum Bowling Lanes (5315 Nolensville Road) from 8:30p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The Brentwood Hills Young Professionals Softball Team will have games at Cane Ridge Park at 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on April 10th, April 17th, and April 24th.

SUNDAY, APRIL 13TH - We will have a devo and meal at Johnsie & Alyne Henderson's home (1400 Bowman Lane in Brentwood) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The Kick-Off for "CONNECT" will be on Wednesday, April 30th.  Finger foods will be served from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. and then we will have a devo from 7:00 - 7:30p.m. with singing and a short message from Archie Luper.
