CONNECT - A New Activity for Young Adults Begins in May 2008 PDF Print E-mail

Connect – An opportunity for you to connect with God and with other young single adults each Wednesday at Brentwood Hills. From 6:15p.m.-7:00p.m. on Wednesday evenings in May-August 2008 a mixer meal for young single adults will be served on the upstairs terrace or in the terrace view room (classroom #502). The cost for the meal including a dessert will be $5.00 per person (or $4.00 if you buy a monthly meal ticket in advance). See the May Menu at the bottom of this page. During the mixer meal you (or if you prefer you & one friend) will be seated with a different group of people each week so you can get to know and Connect with other single adults from the area. After the meal two groups will meet for a period of singing and Bible study from 7:00p.m.-7:45p.m. Details listed below:

GROUP ONE (Target age 25-40) Theme of study “RELATIONSHIPS”

This Bible study group will be led by Archie Luper (May) and David

Tiner, a Christian counselor, (June-August). Here are some subjects to be

discussed (additional subjects suggested by participants):

1. Connecting with God: Developing & maintaining a foundational covenant relationship

2. Dealing with problems in relationships-roommates, friends, co-workers & couples

3. Determining if you can or should continue to pursue a current relationship

4. Respectful and constructive ways to resolve issues, problems and conflict

5. Problems in relationships that should NOT be ignored and how to seek professional help-persistent anger, physical/verbal/sexual abuse, addictions, etc.

6. Dealing with scars from past relationships - inability to trust, fear of rejection, etc.

7. Developing relationship skills that can help in existing and/or future relationships

8. Learning to effectively communicate with the opposite sex

9. Understanding and respecting his needs/her needs

GROUP TWO (Target age 19-29) Theme of study “TWENTY SOMETHING

ISSUES”

This Bible study group will be led by Johnsie Henderson, J. D. Blackburn,

Archie Luper & others. Here are just some of the subjects to be discussed

(additional subjects suggested by participants):

1. Connecting with God: Developing & maintaining a foundational covenant relationship

2. Connecting with a network of friends who encourage & help each other

3. Connecting with people I can date – where do I go?

4. Life in the real world: Making decisions, making money, making payments, etc.

5. Maintaining balance - time, money, relationships, responsibilities, recreation, etc.

6. While You Wait: Things to accomplish before you finish your education, before marriage

7. Dealing with problems in relationships - roommates, friends, co-workers, couples

8. Respectful and constructive ways to resolve issues, problems and conflict

9. Developing relationship skills that can help in existing and/or future relationships

Wednesday, May 7th – Meal catered by Dairy King – Poppy Seed Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, Salad, Rolls, Fudge or Chess Pie, Tea and Bottled Water

Wednesday, May 14th – Meal catered by Shane’s Rib Shack – Barbecue Sandwiches (Pulled Chicken & Pulled Pork), Baked Beans, Slaw, Potato Salad, Chips, Cobbler, Tea, Soft Drinks & Bottled Water

Wednesday, May 21st – Chicken Fillets (catered by McDougal’s), Baked Potatoes, Salad, Green Beans, Rolls, Dessert, Tea, Soft Drinks & Bottled Water

Wednesday, May 28th – Deli Sandwiches (catered by Subway), Fresh Fruit Tray, Chips, Ice Cream Desserts, Tea, Soft Drinks and Bottled Water
